Beginners Dead Lift Question
I'll probably sound like a bit of a div for asking this but...
I've just recently started weight training at home and I seem to be doing ok. I have found that my Romanian (stiff leg) Dead Lift is just far too easy but if I add more plates to the bar my grip gives way before my legs.
What would be the best solution?I learn something new everyday.

I use to read Powerlifting magazine regularly and such questions came up frequently for dead lifts. Many of the elite lifters recommended using a power rack to assist getting the bar to the height and putting on the weight, lifting it and holding it until you can't maintain your grip. You are in effect only lifting the bar an inch or two in this manner and working mostly on your grip. Use good form to take the weight and watch your back.

Great suggestion, Dennis. When I started manual therapy, my grip was a big problem and I used to fatigue pretty quick. Deads and doing towel KB swings helped a ton...and pretty quick. After getting used to heavy towel swings, I'd use oven mitts (OUTSIDE) and do swings with them on.

I always deadlift with the reverse grip, one hand fingers in, one hand fingers out.

Yeah, I thought about that and I should have mentioned the grip in my response. However for developing a strong grip I use a normal grip when holding heavy bars like I suggested. Also when lifting I do several side lfts that will also work my grip, lateral rows, side bends etc. It's with less weight but the grip is still worked.
