Battle of Saipan - photographs
From the Daily Mail, some photographs of WW II The Battle of Saipan (Wiki page).
Example;

So many photographs from that era were edited, screened, censored for pro[aganda/morale reasons, that some of these come across as "staged". Others are so graphically real, with the stark brutality that black and white photography can bring, that they could have been taken yesterday in a very different location. Humanity, suffering, conflict and mercy.. are they as timeless and inevitable now as they ever were?David Noble
