    Default Whitney Houston, RIP

Whitney Houston found dead in her hotel room.
My wife saw her concert at Wembley in 1986. She sang BETTER than the album... but was playing with each song and it was often frustrating that she didn't duplicate the version on the record. Such an amazing voice, and totally gorgeous in "Bodyguard". I really hoped she was finding a way back from the wilderness, but apparently not to be. All she needed was one good song that was written for an old croaky voice and she could have reinvented herself. I'm sure she could have found a way to bring the old skills back in a new way.. Frank Sinatra did it in the 50s with his "comeback". Johnny Cash made an album with covers of songs like U2's "One", which sounded terrific.

Not my music either, but she had a heck of a voice.

The whole thing with her is sad, but it's not like we couldn't see it coming. It was like a fiery death spiral, you hope that she'll pull up at the last second, but eventually she was going to crash into earth. Like so many others who have gone before her, she surrounded herself with enablers that let this happen.

Judy and I when talking about her death were asking ourselves "who's next"? It's not like she's the only celebrity on a death spiral and we're just waiting on the inevitable.

Sad to see the media hype and folks that could have helped, but didn't. I'm sure some did, but half the effort to get her clean as to "honor" her memory would have helped. American's need to shun the entertainers that are addicted until they clean up. Should be a cautionary tale to kids, but then they see the hype - who knows what they make up their minds about the actual destruction.

There is a sad history of, imho, criminal enablers in celebrity crashes. From the deaths of Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Prestley, Michael Jackson, etc. there have been people enabling their descents into self destruction in order to "stay in the inner circle" and make some money and gain some prestige. Despicable.

Somebody should have told them that the best, truest, friends, will tell a person when they are being stupid or are full of ****. Diplomatically, of course...
