The Beatles: The Next Generation
The son's of the original Beatles are thinking of forming up a modern day Beatles. While I wish them luck in their musical careers and having to live under a very big shadow created by their fathers... NO NEW BEATLES PLEASE. Do your own thing, but The Beatles are sacrosanct in my book.

Dhani Harrison is s good musician, I think Julian Lennon might be a better choice than Sean Lennon....but the Beatles were a product of an era and place that doesn't exist anymore. I can't see that creative atmosphere of the 60s existing again, almost every band back then was unique, the Beatles, the Stones, the Who, Jefferson Airplane, the Doors, the Byrds, Dylan.....vastly different musical styles.

Dhani is definitely a good musician and it's my understanding that Julian Lennon is supposed to be quite good as well. Zack Starkey is an excellent drummer and has player in several quality bands, but does not really want to participate in this, and not too sure about James McCartney as I have not heard anything he has done. However, I am willing to bet they could put together a respectable band, but just don't try and emulate the Beatles.
BTW, of the son's of the original Fab 4, Dhani Harrison looks the most like his Dad. Really uncanny resemblance to George. During the "Concert for George", Paul McCartney must have been having flashbacks considering that Dhani was of the same age that George was during Paul's years with the Beatles. Olivia Harrison commented (relayed by Paul) that it was like George stayed young and the rest of them got older.

Too many people would want them to do Beatles cover songs to compare, which is too bad.
I just heard an interview of Kate Winslet from Titanic, and how she hates that Celine Dion song from the movie, and whenever she went somewhere, and someone recognized her, somehow the song would come on. This reminded me of a story I read where Julian Lennon had said when he goes into bars and such, people play "Hey Jude" and it actually bothers him.The unforgivable crime is soft hitting. Do not hit at all if it can be avoided; but never hit softly. - Theodore Roosevelt

Great video Mark. The Concert for George is one of my favorite videos (in fact, I may watch it tonight). If you get a chance to watch the DVD extras, during the rehearsals leading up to the concert, Eric Clapton came to Dhani and told him he's in all the way or he's out. The plan was for Dhani to come in and out during the concert at various times and play on certain songs. Eric, who BTW is Dhani's Godfather, wanted him there for the whole thing and did that to encourage his participation during the whole concert.
I was telling Judy how cool it must have been for Dhani to grow up. He's got George Harrison for his father, Eric Clapton as his Godfather, occasional visits by "Uncle" Ringo and Paul, and insignificant musicians like Jeff Lynn, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, Billy Preston, Ravi Shankar, Jim Keltner, and Joe Brown coming by to hang out and jam with his Dad.

Three blokes playing separate drum kits, two more with percussion and that bald bloke with shades who is just EVERYWHERE! I must have missed out on this concert for some reason. I shall have to dig it out.

Definitely watch it. Break out your best snacks and some quality brew and enjoy. It's unreal how much talent was on that stage. If you want to go back a few years, give Concert for Bangladesh (check this link too)a watch. It's an incredible concert!

Beatles: The next generation.... Hey, it works for Zappa Playing Zappa, right?
I bet they could do a New Beatles album, then an original album, that would be the best of both worlds for them, to step out of the shadows of their parents.
or something.
