This is one impressive story of a Marine Sergeant born and raised in Burma who volunteered after 9/11 and twice wounded in combat. Semper Fi Sgt Naing!

Awesome! Thanks for posting. There's two parts to this story. The Marine that took the time to work with him for a year so he could pass the ASVAB. Good instincts.

That's a good point Tony! During Boot Camp, our Platoon Guide could barely read and things like the Guidebook and other training materials were beyond him. It was surprising that he passed the ASVAB. So I spent many of nights in the head after Taps teaching him to read and by the time we graduated, he was reading very well and getting better. I would have never bothered if his desire to be a Marine wasn't so earnest. I later learned that he retired as a SgtMaj with 27 years of service.
