Scientology takes on internet sites....again
Scientology asks members to help shut down talk about it on various internet sites.
I wonder if they would try something like that here. The Katie Holmes-Tom Cruise split apparently has had a negative effect on the Church of Scientology, which is calling for members to take action and silence naysayers.
The campaign also comes as an entire mission for the church has defected from under the leadership of David Miscavige, reports the Village Voice. Leader Dani Lemberger of Israel's Dror Center, in Haifa, told Voice blogger Tony Ortega that his mission is one of the few that are still growing and announced that it is rejecting Miscavige's leadership.
It is the "first time in memory" that an entire mission has announced that it is leaving the church, Ortega said.
The church has sent an email to followers instructing them on how to "counter free speech on the internet," according to former Scientologist and current anti-Scientologist blogger Marty Rathbun, who posted the email message in its entirety on his blog.
He notes that it comes from the church's Office of Special Affairs, otherwise known as the "dirty tricks and propaganda arm of Scientology Inc." The message begins:
I am not a big fan of media, but you may have glanced the news of the split between TC and Holmes and all the speculations around. While this is a personal matter, when people start to bring our religion into the middle and a bunch of uninformed people start to spread false datum, rumors and defame our religion it became a matter that does affect my Dynamics and I believe that affects yours as well.
The message instructs followers to visit media sites, including Microsoft, Google or any other that requires users to agree to a code of conduct that prohibits comments that threaten, defame or degrade any group or individuals.
Followers should hunt for any comments about the Cruise-Holmes divorce, click the "Report" tag, and report the comments as violations of the site's code of conduct, the email instructs.
You can write something like "Violate Your Code of Conduct". 'defames or degrades a group for any reason including on the basis of religion.'
The author of the email notes that if only one person does it, the news site moderators won't act. Thus, the email says, "if you start to have 10 or 20 people reporting it, they are going to take this down."
Blogger Rathbun notes that the attempt to censor website comments is like showing up to a nuclear war with a squirt gun.
When will David Miscavige (supreme leader of corporate Scientology and Tom Cruise's best man) ever learn that attempts to suppress communication and expression only make more news than the news he attempts to censor?
Meanwhile, the Church of Scientology is also facing several high-profile defections in the wake of the Cruise-Holmes divorce, as well as the high-profile sex scandal involving John Travolta, another Hollywood Scientologist.
Lisa Marie Presley reportedly has parted with the church, said Fox News. After moving to the English countryside, she told the network, she began second-guessing "everything and everyone I knew. ... People that were in my life for a long time turned sinister and tried to control me and all kinds of weird stuff happened."
Jefferson Hawkins, a former executive with the church, told Fox that he expects more defections.
"A lot of celebrities are starting to wake up. ... You don't see the big celebrities promoting it anymore. Even Tom has been pretty quiet on the subject over the last few years."Guns don't kill people. Husbands that come home early kill people.

Scientology is such a scam. It boggles the mind that otherwise intelligent people would buy off on such BS.

Same here, but that's only the tip of the iceberg.
What they do to children is mind-boggling:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RywZb...feature=relmfu
The abuse and neglect that went on within their children's organization is horrifying:
http://www.forum.exscn.net/showthrea...-the-Cadet-Org
Then there was the "Commodore's Messengers" group during L. Ron Hubbards life who served him personally around the clock - on the ship "Apollo". These were girls aged 13-17 who were dressed in hot pants and sailor tops in the 1960's to early-1970's, iirc. Just icky. Especially considering that L. Ron Hubbard was an old man who also, apparently, heavily abused drugs. His autopsy showed significant drug use, iirc.
Girls forced at age 14-15 to marry much older men, people thrown overboard for minor transgressions, the "Rehabilitation Project Force", etc. All horrible.
Fortunately, I was able to prevent them from obtaining some members and money years ago (I was well-versed on cults at the time). I had a co-worker, an older divorced woman with children, who I caught just in time to prevent her from signing away her Condo in order to pay to have her "engrams removed". Then she asked me to speak to a fellow Dianetics classmate - who I also talked out of continuing her "education". Then another... They (the local Scientologists) actually called me at work to threaten me. It actually went further than this, but I will leave that out to protect my privacy.
These are bad people, and the digger you deep, the more evil you understand the organization to be. When I parted them from money and potential members, circa-1993, I didn't know the half of it. I just knew about L. Ron's conversation with Robert Heinlein where L. stated he would found a religion to make money. I knew about the e-meters (a scam, in my not so humble opinion), and the retaliation against enemies of the cult. I did NOT know about the rampant sexual/emotional/physical abuse of children in Cadet Org.Last edited by Jonathan Randall; 07-06-2012 at 17:15.

I read this article a few days ago, then couldn't find it anywhere. I began to suspect it had been pulled from the website by agitated scientologists. The bit I particularly liked was the reader's comment;
You have to understand that the whole "Xenu" story is not revealed to Scientologists until they reach a certain level within L Ron Hubbard's "Bridge to Total Freedom". This is a crucial piece of information without which it is difficult to come to an understanding of the mindset of Scientologists.
Believe it or not, 90% of Scientologists could read this blog entry and wonder what on Earth you are talking about.
Firstly, when you join Scientology there is nothing very weird about it. You are told it is an "applied religious philosophy" which aims to better man and in fact the entire world. You are offered training courses at reasonable sums which apparently are quite good.
Secondly. the bulk of Scientology practice is about "auditing" on the lower-levels. This means that you spend a lot of time going through previous painful experiences in this (and other) lifetimes. Many people say they find a lot of benefit in this practice.
Thirdly, within Scientology the Upper Levels are shrouded in mystery. No one is allowed to talk about them. If you have done the Upper Levels you are encouraged to talk about your "wins" i.e. how great it is and how wonderful you feel, but you are NOT allowed to discuss the content of the levels. This sets an expectations among Scientologists that the Upper Levels must be tremendous, so if/when they reach that level and read the Xenu story, many are tempted to go along with it.
Fourthly, if a Scientologist read the headline of this blog entry he would read no further, since you can get into a lot of trouble (and expense having to redo levels) if you read articles which are critical of the church.
Lastly, it costs about £300,000 to get that far. There is a phenomena known as "sunk cost bias" at play here, which means if you've paid £300K for something, you will try every mental trick in the book to convince yourself it must be worth it, including telling all your friends how great OT3 is.
So, it's not a joke that's gone horribly wrong, it's much more bizarre than that:- it's a joke nobody in Scientology actually knows.David Noble

Looks like the Scientologists are getting bent out of shape over a film, 'The Master' that is loosely based on L. Ron Hubbard. Screw'em.
From the article:
"A source familiar with Paul Thomas Anderson ’s film about the founder of a Scientology-like religious movement tells us officials of the controversial church group “hit the roof” when they learned — presumably through Cruise — that the movie contains a scene which suggests the belief system was little more than a product of the leader’s fertile imagination."

Man, this looks like Katie Holmes was scared to death of something like the Church of Scientology grabbing her kids.

I know very little about Scientology. I saw the commercials on TV years ago for his Dianetics book. As a SciFi fan I knew he was an author but never read his work. What I do remember most was the incident where they were putting Rattlesnakes in people's mailboxes. Insane ! After that I mostly ignored it.

Actually, that was Synanon - a drug rehabilitation center and program that evolved into a cult. It folded in the late 1980's, iirc, under the weight of criminal investigations and allegations of abuse and mismanagement of funds. Unlike Scientology, they never learned to use the court system effectively.
Scientology ran Narconon, another drug treatment program.
