Default Gibson pays fine ... voluntarily ...

Sounds more like capitulation plus loss of materials...

I didn't read the article in the link but I am familiar with the case.

Henry is not the most ..... likeable guy and rubs certain people the wrong way. Some of which are people he should have been really nice to. What Gibson was doing wasn't anything different than other companies. It is just the way he channeled the product into the US. See If henry would have had the woods processed and finished in India he could have imported it legally. But Henry has a company in Europe and he wanted his own people to do the work ... which they do better work. This path of getting the product to the US violated technical aspects of the law. This stuff is still coming from the same trees. But if the Indians do the the post processing on the protected lumber then it is legal.

Henry needs to get rosewood into Tennessee. Personally I like maple fretboards. I like the brightness and clarity but people who buy Gibsons do not want baked maple fretboards they want rosewood or ebony. I've played Gibsons but generally I have been a Fender guy.

I don't stress too much about the neck but I prefer rosewood boards.....at the end of the day the difference in tone might only be discernible to the Morses, Johnson's, Becks of this world though, 99% of every one else won't know the difference.

I've owned maple, rosewood & once even an ebony fretboard. My current guitars have maple. My ear isn't talented enough to tell the difference, but I just "like" maple. It looks "clean" to me.

I don't have perfect pitch but I know I have good ears...when I was studying classical guitar I could tell the difference between a major third and a perfect fifth right away, when I took lessons on electric guitar , the instructor was surprised I could bend in tune in one lesson....I can't tell you the difference between roswood, maple or ebony....I like rosewood because Morse, satrani and Vai like rosewood.
