Ok.
Alright. Since I have nothing better to do at the moment, I'll give my take(s) on Johenora's comments.
Yes, and Don was right. Sometimes this entails revealing frauds and fakes for who and what they are. I was speaking with an individual in a chatroom the other day that was adamantly convinced that Frank Dux was the only "ninja" in America, backing up this statement with how he had met him and so on. It was very sad.Trent,et.al.---
Who is "who" was not designed for a slander board .It was designed to be constructive and aquire information for those who have a legitimate "need to know".Agreed?
I fail to see the difference. A secondary source is a secondary source, no matter how many of them you use.In reference to RIGID--Is it hearsay or multiple hearsay?
That which is true. What in the heck is the truth?
What makes you think that I do?? Or, claim to??Spell it out please, if you know.
In my experience, martial artists on the whole are no more in search of "the truth" than anyone else. There are exceptions, of course. We are always in search of the truth as Martial artists.
You're not the one that started the thread. If you are no longer interested in the thread topic, then don't participate. Its that simple. On balance I could care less now who these FIVE NINJA GUYS are?
Esoteric. Heh.But some persons want to know in case they wish to train in that esoteric Ninja/Ninpo art.
Oh geez.I have problems tying to figure what is going on in a pure way.
And, what is it you think this "pure way" entails??
Sometimes. Some are pointing their finger through their students and cronies to discredit what looks like the "competing group or persons in the group".
Sometimes. Is the martial arts in the USA just another big business operation with photopns and internet and martial art magazines etc.to make big money out of the back yard?
Sometimes, but this occurs less often than you may like to believe. It is for the betterment of the individuals in it and our society in a good and wholesome way.
It never was. People need to quit romanticizing about the past, and look at the present. It is not one big Happy American Family like it used to be.
There ever was??Is there no more unity and respect for the arts itself for the sake of the art?
Seems to me like its already here.Backstabbing, name calling, crys of this and that--this is a small example of what is on the horizon.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!I can guarantee you this.In the USA martial arts is and are the best. If it wasn't why would all these foreigners be here trying to grab at the American spirit?
Oh dear, its so funny its painful.
This begs the obvious question why, if you believe American martial arts are so great, are you discussing at length on the message board of a Japanese system??If Americans want to go to foreign lands and learn foreign martial arts of their own free will and accord-- fine.
*chuckles* Ummm.... right. The taste of USA martial arts is the best until it is proven to me otherwise..
Laterz, all.

Trent and others (et.al.):
Trent you are are cool and the greatest. Are you really heretic?
At least we have the right to agree and disagree. Correct?
I admit I was trolling. There was some tongue in cheek. No one else has bitten the bullet. Have you noticed?Soon they will! Yes I wished I had asked or created who are these 5 Ninja?
I note now that a 6th Ninja has surfaced--to wit: Mr. Frank Dux.
Now we are begining to really find out in a good way who these five/six persons are and all those opinions on them. In a nice way of course.Yet it is self evident there are more Ninja teachers out there--public or underground.
I respect everyone of your opinions and I am most happy you had a good laugh.
But do you not agree we have in BudoSeek a Board with greater attributes than some others I have seen?
We posters have not been throwing dirt at each other, nor using profanity and even the heretics are following the rules of the Benevolent Dictator. It took a while for me in my heretic ways to learn all those simple rules.I have to restrain myself at times or I fall in the trap for the unwary as a rule breaker. You no doubt know I have been admonished and nicely reprimmanded in an open letter for good cause, that is, for certain infractions. As an old salty Marine I tend to use bad words and children are on this board. I have apologized to Mr.Lawrence et.al..
I am now resorting to Yoga to loosen up. I even started to copy-cat my deceased teacher in our wicked ways. I revere and honor him in spite of what some snobs say of him and never had met him or saw him in pain with cancer etc. Many have told falsehoods about him. These liars could not even shine his shoes or walk in his sandals.
Notice you had to segment to answer some of my comments. Not bad as a result of advances in computer technology.
So I presume those that were left unanswered you may agree on.
As to multiple hearsay you are most correct on an evidentiary basis these are similar. What I meant to convey is this---as the multiple hearsay snow-balls it sometimes gets more piled higher and deeper like a big snow ball rolling down a hill and then no longer smacks of the truth.
Then the side-liners get into it and these six Ninja are exposed to all kinds of false premises.
But why all this fuss about Mr. Frank Dux? How did he get in with the five Ninja under review for all to talk about for better or for worse?
Why all the fuss about-- is it true he is or isn't a ninja.
Could he really be the last Ninja?
Can not anyone be a martial artist or a ninja? The function of one can be the function of another.
Does it not show the strength and loyalty of Mr. Frank Dux's students?
Why really all the fuss about the Ninpo Ninja mania related to Mr. Frank Dux or to anyone who wishes to practice the way of Ninpo?
We should have Mr. Frank Dux's viewpoint? Also the view of students may help for us to see the light and their views for that matter.
Is not most of the Ninja art about the use of weapons, stealth, blending in the night etc.as I saw in the movie the other night as to the Last Samurai.
After projecting a little I was beginning to wonder who really was the last Samurai? I guess the last one to cut his top knot off.
Samurai is still supposed to be illegal in Japan by edict in that the Shogunate Congress was abolished. Then they resurrected Bushido Ways in World War II.Now they are back to Heisei.
Essentially some really do not want that which is true.Nor do they want "worldly acceptance".Maybe they just wish to be different even if they want to change the color of their skin or looks like Mr. Michael Jackson did etc. They have a right to say this or do this and that, provided they do not harm a person or property or missrepresent so a reasonable person relies on that missrepresentation and is damaged therby. This is simplistically the definition of a FRAUD.The movies are repleat with "frauds" and "fictions"-so what if no one gets injured? Because something is not true may not be a fraud but merely a FICTION.What is true or not true is in the belief stucture of the mind of the principal and the agent/s.
Would it not be better to say one is in line from the origin of Ninja or not in that so called line? Like the branches of a tree?
Some students could care less who is "legitimate" or "'Non legitimate", who is "meretritious" or truly in the line of ancestry ,who can give rank and who can not. It has reached the point of absurdity. We should find who benefits. "Cui Bono?" as is said in Latin.
I for a fact am firmly convinced Hatsumisan is a man free born under the tounge of good report. He has and will be maligned etc by "little minds" but he has the right under his deceased teacher or teachers to teach Ninpo or whatever as he sees fit, give awards etc. Some maligners had said Hatsumi Sensei had no teacher, photos of him were fake etc--now it is seen a movie of his techer has come to pass to disprove the maligners. He has an absolute right to do his thing provided no one is "damaged" or 'injured" therby. He is the Principal and his students are his Agents and moreso. The promises are bilateral between him and his students/followers/agents or disciples.
When Hatsumisan or the other principals in Ninpo arts die the dead hand of the past does not control --for anyone of his students at his death can teach as they will. The titular head is dead.
Perhaps this is what Mr. Frank Dux is saying. My teacher is dead so I teach this or that as he taught me.
Now let us hear from Mr. Frank Dux.
Good to hear from you. Your candid and well expressed views are most informative and appreciated. Cheers.Last edited by johenora; 12-12-2003 at 16:15.

Dear Don Roley:
I apologize if I acted like a moderator. I do not wish to be a moderator. I may have as you say overstepped my bounds. Like you I wish also to know in the arts who is true etc. I am merely suggesting they give us the true facts.
Also I wish I had asked this great original question. I was merely trying to suggest we collect the valid, reliable facts and do as you say. That is tell the truth without slander remarks based on mere whims or lies. The truth shall set us free. In particular to Mr. Ashida Kim and his book which is full of fiction, fakes etc. All you said is true because of the facts not opinions..
If his book or system was legit from a real teacher then I would say so be it.
But who has he harmed? He harmed me.
I bought his book and when I read it I went and got my money back. I said to the store owner these photos look familiar. The store owner said the pictures were taken here in Clifton,N.J. in the back of this building and I got the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
The children who buy the book are also defrauded. These are valid facts.
Even the name is a pen name. I am not a Ninja expert but I at least can be a critic in a nice way without resorting to foul language or lies or slander. Please do not align me with him. This is not fair.
I am a public figure and I do not wish you please to be put in the likes of Mr.Kim.
I will defend his right to say what he wants to say provided what he says is true. The book is a pure fiction. At least he should do like others have said and say this is fiction.
My other failed attempt to get a point across is this: It helps me not if I ask is Mr. X's system legit? When the reply is merely he is a fraud.
So I ask why? And I am told find out for yourself. I thought we are here to get valid information as you suggest. So to just say Mr. X is a fraud does not help the readers who are searching for the truth.
This is why Diogenes carried a lamp looking for an honest man.
I suggest we invite Mr. Kim to give us his side of the story so we all can benefit from his view. He may say it is fiction --so be it.
Mr. Justin Mears above is 100 % correct in what is to be believed and why. But I need objective facts and sources as to make my mind up. It took a book to make my mind up on Mr. Kim.I took your opinion into account ,but it was a real thing that proved it to me. If like Mr. Mears said I believed all of Kim's mere print and photos I would be defrauded. How does Kim get away with it? Simply because some do not speak up. I do not have to whisper slander. If you do not like what I say please do not tell me to fly a kite or get off of it or go to other threads. Now I suggest in reverse (Gaeshi) you maybe acting like the benevolent dictator. But am I now being sarcastic? I am telling it nice to you and kindly.I respect your views or I would not be busting the ivory keys.
It sounds like I am lecturing. If so forgive me. How are we to get the truth? We need the operative, genuine, valid evidentiary facts not slander.
The Latin saying says it --Res Ipsa Loquitur--the thing speaks for itself.
His book says it all. I wish I had the skills to put some of the pictures of his book on this site. You would all laugh harder than you are laughing at me right now as you read this.
I should stick to ZEN and say so mote it be.HA!HA!HA!
Happy Holidays,
Respectfully yours.John Denora

Trust me, Frank Dux is about as big a joke as Ashida Kim. He has been investigated by the LA Times, SOF magazine and others and his claims all fall flat on their face. You can kind of tell the quality of his charecter by seeing that he actually joined the World Soke Council and attended their award dinner with people like Irving Soto. Check this page out to see him a that idiot Soto hamming it up for the camera. I do not blame many of the people Soto has pictures with, but the ones from the World Soke Council Dinner crack me up!!!Originally posted by johenora

Please do not have any hot liquids in the area of your mouth as you read Irving Soto's bio. It is almost like a zen ko-an, are the people who associate with Dux idiots because they associate with him, or is Dux the idiot for associating with them?
But John Denora, you really do not know anything about the subject matter do you? There was never any doubt that Hatsumi studied under Takamatsu. If you want to rally against the spread of false information, maybe you should spend a little more time researching a subject before you start typing.

What is the saying, sleep with dogs, get fleas. The thing is with people like Frank dux is that they join these soke-dokey boards in order to raise their standing by association. So it is kind of weird when it is pointed out that these type of orginizations are mainly populated by weirdos, frauds and hucksters and they scream about how they are not guilty by association.Originally posted by johenora
Thanks for your guilt by association statement.
Excuse me, you wanted to be thought of better by associating with certain folks, but when it is dis-advantagous the same sort of association should not count against you?
That is one of the things that is so funny about these Soke Dokey boards and the people, like Dux, who join them eagerly.
It has been my experience that when you run across one of these guys on the internet, they try to appear as enlightened, knowedgable teachers. [/URL]Last edited by Jay Bell; 12-13-2003 at 20:04.

Rule of thumb, if you're going to flame someone's spelling or grammar, make sure your post is perfect.
But I do agree, his posts do tend to be a bit rambling, kind of like Ted Kazcynski's (sp?) manifesto...

Andrew,
Here is an excellent web site that will answer some of your questions about the Ninja, their origins, and role in today's modern society. The author of the web site is Roy Ron. Mr. Ron is an Israeli who has been living in Japan for several years as both a student and an instructor of Japanese Martial arts. He has spent a great deal time researching the Japanese warrior.

It is not the rambling, it is the lack of fact, logic and even a small amount of knowledge about the subject matter that should cause concern. You obviously know very little about Ninjutsu, and probably martial arts in general. That is ok as long as you do not try to answer questions about things you know nothing about. But for someone like you who thinks that Frank Dux is somehow a legitimate martial artist and that there was questions on whether Hatsumi studied with Takamatsu to speak with authority is just silly.Originally posted by johenora
I do tend to ramble.
There are many more people here who know more about the martial arts subjects being discussed. We do not need someone who knows as little as you do muddying the waters. Feel free to ask questions. That is probably the best way for someone with your lack of knowledge and experience to get to know things. But if you don't like people pointing out how little you know, you should keep your mouth shut unless you are certain you understand the subject matter.

Quintin Chambers
I do not want to split hairs here or cause any trouble but I read something on here and I just wanted to add what I was told from the source himself.
Quintin Chambers was introduced to Hatsumi Sensei by Danny Waxman. Terry Dobson had something to do with it but it was Mr. Waxman that actually made the intro. His training with him was irregular due to his other commitments and the time it took to get to his house. The only reason I know this is bc Mr. Chambers told me when he was in my car. For some reason I am going to take his word for it.
Mr. Chambers told me that he has asked Hatsumi what he would do if he were attacked in a certain way and he showed him. That very thing later saved his butt in Hawaii during a scuffle with a rather large Polynesian man. He showed me and it felt like someone seperated my throat. Loved it.B. Christopher Moon

Please, PLEASE tell us more. I have the book by Hatsumi and Quintin, and have read all I can about both, but a source such as yourself is a great find.
Please let us know all you can about the relationship and interaction between these martial art's greats. What was the thing Hatsumi taught Quintin that saved his butt? How long did Danny Waxman train with Hatsumi and what is he doing now?
I must not be the only person waiting with baited breath (after eating sushi my breath always smells like bait
) for more stories like this.

Robert Bussey
Robert Bussey was involved in Ninjutsu but separated and went his own way years and years ago. You can find out about his current work at www.robertbussey.com. It's about empowering people with practical skills and is not a martial art in the traditional sense.
His videos are pretty amazing! Especially the RBWI series. They are not "authentic" Ninjutsu however. Though Robert Bussey doesn't associate himself with anything Ninja-related (other than acknowledging the past history) Panther Videos does still market the Ninja series...but they're very old products. Pretty fun though!
You can find some articles he wrote in 87 or so when he was more affiliated with Ninjutsu - archived on the black belt magazine website. www.blackbeltmag.com
Last, here is a sample list of articles by Robert Bussey and some of his students and other people who have trained under him.
Take care!

in relation to the question bbt and hatsumi are the only links to the art of
ninjutsu but 90% of our art is of samuri roots as to the fact that who the
hell needs to know how to assinate people when i first started training
it was called ninjutsu but soke changed the name as it did not reflect
the nature of the art in modern societey .try telling someone you are a ninja
and you will see what i mean [big combat knife collection subscription to guns&ammo etc] ashida kim is just comical bussey lost his bottle on his
shidosi test and prehaps he could not bring together his right wing christian
veiws together with the buddist eliments in ninpo hayes did not fall out with
soke but blends the art more with tibeten buddisim and a american mindset
to make his own more personel art in relation to are we ninja no the same
as a jujitsu practitioner is not a samuri and the distinction between the two
is alot more blured than people think
