hi
I have never been formally taught a weapon. I have only learned from videos and watching others at tournament, but my favorite so far are the nunchukas and staff. If everything goes right i will be begining a class next week that teaches escrima. I also have a video in the mail on the kung fu broadsword.

I like the Bart Cham Do(Sp) Wing Chun double knives. They scare the crap out of me.
Since it's Patty's day I'll have to go with my fore head though.
Cheers

There are different names for different configurations... a Halberd is a "Chi". A double sided halberd is "Shuang Chi". There's also various knife bladed halberd like weapons... Guan Dao, Pu Dao, Da Dao, Yuan Yang Dao, etc....

Hello everyone, this is my first post on this forum.I wasnt going to post because this post was kinda old,but a good question. I do not study a chinese art right now, hoping to start Choy Lee Fut soon, but from th weapons that I would like to learn and intrest me most, the kwan dao, dao, staff and the straight sword, I think thats as cut down I can get it, but the most uniqe I would have to say is the Horse Bench, I never new about it untill I did some research on Choy Lee Fut. Not one that would be my favorite but deffinatly different and would be fun to learn. My number one favorite....Ill be able to hopfully answer in a couple of year when Im hopfully a almost good Martial Artist, and then I might have a better perspective of the weapons.

It is, but there's a southern Chinese sabre called the Miao Dao (after the Miao people) that predates the modern katana & looks strikingly like a katana. You're cool here.

Dave it is taught, but I think it's kind of obscure. I know there are a couple of modern wushu sets that have tried to preserve it. Here's one that kinda demonstrates how the Chinese view a long, thin single edged knife...

Very interesting! I didn't know that such a similar weapon was used in CMA. A couple of the cuts are very close to those used in kenjutsu. Neat stuff.

I would have to go with the Chain whip. A weapon that is totally concealable, and talk about effective! A man well versed in the chain whip is dangerous indeed. A man who is not is also very dangerous, but particularly to himself. I have not had a chance to train with one yet, as the system of Shao-lin I train in reserves this untill around your second year of training.
of weapons I have trained with I would definltey have to go with the Bo staff or spear.
