Shaolin Kung Fu training in China
Hey guys, as I've stated in my previous post; I am interested in learning Kung Fu and studying the teachings of the Buddha. I have found a website,
http://www.shaolins.com/
that offers foreigners the oppurtunity to study both traditional Kung Fu and Buddhism in China for as long as the student wishes. I am considering it to be a once in a lifetime oppurtunity to pursue my passions. However, its pretty hefty price tag of roughly 4500 USD for first year not including plane ticket, etc. I wanted some opinions on the quality of the training, whether or not this was legit Shaolin Kung Fu, and whether or not anyone has studied MA in China. Is their any other way of learning both traditional Shaolin Kung Fu and studying Buddhism for less money?

Jeff, dont mind our friend Ray here.
He reminds me of that guy on the FedEx Commercial... You know, the one who thinks they get french benefits?
Maybe Ray can explain to us how a group of Qigong cultivating buddhist monks trained to fight in COMMUNIST CHINA, an officially atheist country, are allowed to run their monastary... when Falun Dafa, a qigong cultivating peaceful buddhist practice is banned and practitioners are harrassed if not arrested?
could it be, maybe, just might be, that the shaolin monks exist soley because they are money makers?

Well... Falun Dafa is a money maker... but they keep it to themselves, not sharing.

Plus there's the whole Jesus complex the leader of FD has, but that's another topic.Message: Due to the ongoing Recession, God has decided the light at the end of the tunnel will be shut off due to power costs. That is all.

Well I dont know about any Jesus complex, but I dont have any issue with people making money. Its when its made under false pretenses that I object to.

Question for J. Burger
Firstly : Viva La Ressistance!
Secondly; Jeff:
Did you look into the shaolin whilst in china only to discover it was.. as you say ... fake ?
If so id say thats pretty good proof - But what do u mean by just Kung Fu guys playing the role? Are they not buddhists? is the Shaolin Temple just a training ground now or something? I dont understand how theryre there, they practice kung fu, yet theyre fake.. Is the kung fu bogus? whats going on here I must know...
I simply dont know enough about China etc to have a true belief on this I just hear what im told. All the people with experience say its fake. The people who say it arent, are people who I have not seen proven in martial arts, or better yet a beginner. Just a thought...
Sometimes reality can be crushing/interesting..Last edited by gr455h0pp3r; 09-29-2005 at 15:09.

By the way, give punctuation and capitalization a shot. It does wonders for your posts.

Im going to close this thread.
Monks are fake, been there seen them know some.
Atheletic Kung Fu people...yup.
Shaolin monk...nope.
Making money off ignorant foreigners...yup.
There is proof. The temples were reopened by the government after the succes of Jet Li's film Shaolin Temple. Kung fu practioners are HIRED to pretend they are monks.
Wow lying to make money what a hard concept for some people to grasp. I mean your willing to defy logic and common sense to entertain some romantic fantasy.
IMHO its an embarrasement to CMA.
That people fall for it is an embarrassement to humans.
You either dont get it or you do get it and your just trolling.
Im not going to expalin it any more than that.

Ray.. WHAT? Are you really even 19? Im boggled that at an age where you should have graduated from high school, you cant even form a coherent sentence.
Most of the people here telling you that your wrong, are people who have been training longer than you have existed on this planet, who have traveled internationally to train, who speak the languages to read original documents. Basically.. people who have a whole lot more experience than you.
Im starting to see why an instructor would only teach you how to fall... your not mature enough to learn anything more advanced.
