Anyone have experience with Gout?
Unfortunately, I now have experience with it, and it SUCKS! Woke up Monday morning and the ball of my left foot felt like it has a friggin nail in it (try pivoting on that!). Anyway, I have done a fair amount of research on the matter and learned that mostly it is dietary related. Basically, many foods (beef, beer, etc) are loaded with "purine" and causes a build up of Uric Acid in the joints (mostly the feet) which crystalize and thus cause pain. So my question is, who else has had this evil experience, and what have you done to remedy the situation?
BTW, did I mention that it REALLY SUCKS!!!

From what I have seen, gout tends to stick around a while. One of our staff nurses told me that large amounts of water tend to ease it. I guess that is due to the flushing away effect, I don't know. There might be remedies to reduce the amount of uric acid in your system. I'll check Web MD.
webmd.com says this, click here
It even gives some home remedies.Last edited by Dennis Monk; 12-15-2004 at 07:58.

Going out on a limb here <pun>
Couldn't resist that one.
Anyway, my prediction is not gout. Gout tends to concentrate in the knuckle joints, expecially in the foot. I would say that, if you are experiencing pain in the heel area, especially the part of the heel which is closest to the center of the foot, you are looking at Plantar Fasciitis, which is an inflammation of the connective tissue which provides support to the bottom of the foot. In extreme cases this can lead to bone spurs around the heel and excruciating pain.

The pain is in the front portion of the ball of the foot just behind the second and third toes.
BTW, thanks Dennis for the info. That is where I got my original information about gout and the treatment plan I am currently pursuing.
Oh, and did I mention that it REALLY SUCKS!

My dad has it in his knees. He never changed his diet or followed any instructions from his doctor except taking pills. When his flares up he can barely walk to the bathroom. He is literally a prisoner in his own home until it eases up. But he never was much of an active person to begin with.

Go to your local health food store and get black cherry concentrate for high levels of uric acid. I have had numerous feedback from people that it can wipe out gout in about 24 hours.(I have been in the health & supplementation industry for 7 years)

gout
my ex-boyfriend's brother had it. he was told to avoid eating anything that has peanuts, liver, heart and sweetbreads, also sardines, beans, everything rich tasting/richly floavored and really good to eat.
then he was also told to lessen the salt, increase the water intake and avoid alcohol too.
his leg swells up and he can barely walk as well. has to use crutches when it acts up. and it was in a bad way...it usually takes some time to subside and get back into normal again...
hope you get to fell better soon."do good when you are able, and when you are unable, maintain goodwill" chinese proverb

Gee, thanks for the good news Stella!
Sounds like your ex's brother had is much worse than I do. Geeze!
So Joseph, how much of this Black Cherry concentrate do you need to take? I will be hitting the health food store tomorrow, and I am ready to get rid of this as soon as possible.
BTW, did I mention that it REALLY SUCKS?

I'll take Joseph's a bit further...
Unfiltered organic cherry juice (if available). Drink about 8 oz's ever 2 hours. Cherry juice helps flush uric acid. I (by some websites that I respect) sugged this to a buddy of mine who when he gets attacks, he's on a cane barely able to move. Sure enough, a day later he was at training hardly able to notice.
