    Default Pekiti- Tirsia?

I was very happy to find that there is a martial arts school nearby my home (Sachetti martial arts academy) where they offer classes on Pekiti- Tirsia. The stick fighting in fillipino arts has always interested me (I am interested in mastering the use of sticks/staffs/cane) and so I am thinking of joining this class. However I dont know anything about this art? Can somebody please tell me the main characteristics of this art? Is it a practical self-defense art? What do you like and dislike about it? I would love to hear more about all fillipino arts in general, so please feel free to reply with any useful information on them. Thanks

    From the PT Kali website:

"Pekiti-Tirsia Kali is a compact and comprehensive fighting system.
It encompasses all phases of self-protection.

From Awareness to fighting in Ranged to Medium, to Close Quarters and Ground fighting.
Fighting out of different angles and positions.
Counter offense as defense against unarmed and armed attacks (stick, sword, knife, firearms)
Counter offense as defense against single or multiple opponents
The Pekiti-Tirsia System is based on the principle of offensive defense against Edged or Impact Weapon Attacks. The very same principle is true and functional for empty hand fighting. Therefore, in the Pekiti-Tirsia system, there is only one set of fighting principles and movement - no matter if attacker or defender are armed or unarmed. This structure allows a more economic use of practice time and creates confidence by understanding and experience. If a method works against an opponent armed with a knife, it also works against the unarmed opponent.
The Mastery of a set of movements requires hard work and full time dedication. In the Pekiti-Tirsia Kali system mastery is acquired by the application of movements through distance sparring and close-in technical exchange by use of tapping and cross-tapping methods.

Because a skilled knife-fighter does not rely on brute muscle power, but on speed, timing and co-ordination, Pekiti-Tirsia offers convenient and logical methods against stronger opponents – no matter if knife or empty hands combat."

I have been exposed to this system through training in Guro Inosanto's Kali curriculum as well as a seminar with Tuhon Gaje (head of the system).
I can say that it is very good system that has basics that are easily learned and are able to be used fairly quickly.

It is in my personal list of top 5 Filipino Martial Arts. (that I have actually seen).

    Good Luck

Default Pekiti is a very practical and effective Art

Ive been training in Pekiti Tirsia Kali for some time and find it to be a very effective and practical Art. It utilizes alot more footwork than most Filipinoi styles and the footwork will also aid your other martial Arts.

Pekiti is a great edged/impact empty hand system which all keys off your basic foundation footwork and basic striking mechanics. It uses the foot work to aid you in countering your opponent and also to place you in a non counterable postion.

I attended a seminar that Hosted Guro Jeff Chung. I found him to be a good teacher who articulates and demonstrates his material in a way that anyone can learn. He is also very humble and personable and true martial artist.

    Hi,

Can anyone here give some information about PTK empty handed system(Dumog-Pangamut) please. Is it complete compared to other other arts which focus more on empty hands like Kung-fu or Karateor other syatems.Howz the kicks in pangamut like.Is it taught as a seperate system like Sikaran. Is Dumog in PTK a Grappling system or a Wrestling system?
I have found a website about Kuntao Dumapag http://www.psdtc.com/KunTao/.Is there any similarities between this system and PTK Dumpag.
