Default Who is Charles Mattera of United Studios?

Who is Charles Mattera of United Studios of Self Sefense? Is he a student of Fred Vallari? If so, Did he rank himself as did Fred Vallari when he (Fred) quite from Cerio's Kempo? I have heard a lot about Steve Demasco from USSD but hardly anything about Charles Mattera (aside from all of the Kempo FAQs). Any info that anyone has on him OR USSD would be really nice!

    Thanks,
    Ryan S.

You are about to open a big can of worms ryan and it may smell. Mattera was with villari from 72 till 88. He left the villari org and stared his own karate chain of schools. He was a 7th degree when he left villaris, he received his 8th degree from grand master nick cerio in 1990.He is now a 10th dan. I dont know where he received his last 2 degrees? In 1993 Grand master nick cerio decided to distance him self from mattera and the ussd org. They clam their art is shaolin kempo, but I've never found anything to back it up ,I dont If it is true?

I see no connection to Lohan, but I wouldn't mind playing doctor with her.

Now you realize that when I say I would like to play doctor with her, I aint talking about anything as dishonest, grasping or as lame as a "doctor of martial arts."

No I ‘m talking more like recreational gynecology?

She is kind of cute. Also very young looking for a HachiDan.

lol. What do you take me for, Ed? I was bornt at night, but not last night.

But, now that you mentioned it, Dr. of Martial Art certainly has a nice ring to it. I like it. I was thinking of calling myself Dr. Hendrix, Master of Offence. But I like your idea better.

I think I am getting new business cards printed. Dr. Hendrix it is.

    Sup Homies!

I studied at USSD for a few months and let me tell you they are the place to go if you want your wallet to be empty! I got some pretty sup-par training and the fact that I , Albert Smith, was able to TAKE DOWN a black belt with no effort (with what I see as my relativly small knowledge of various arts) at my orange belt level is pathetic! I don't care if the guy is an exception there or the norm (pretty weak if so), no one should be wearing a black belt if they can't bring the noise!!!!! I guess you just have to show up for your black belt test to pass. Take it from me, bigger is really not better. Especially when USSD is concerned!

Definetly keep looking. I was at USSD for a while too but got fed up with them after my green w/ stripe test. The girl next to me couldn't do half of her kempos right, and kept looking to me to get her forms right, and they passed her any way.

But now I'm in a place that I really like, the instructors really know there stuff and they would never send you up for a test if you didn't know your stuff. Check out some smaller places. When the people who are teaching you are actually involved with the business that they run, they are more vested in how you turn out as a student because their reputation is on the line.
    Good luck
    Jenny

He did train with villari from the early 70s tell 88 when he hooked up with cerio and received 8th degree. 1993 cerio cut ties with mattera, this is when mattera claimed he was a 9th. Cerio never promoted mattera to 9th.
