I can't do what is being described, but I have been told by many people I am very light on my feet for a person who weighs 260 plus. When you have to walk around a hospital ward at night without disturbing the patients you learn to be light on your feet. Generally what's involved is keeping your weight distributed evenly and having a soft footfall that rolls not slaps the floor. Also, you may try to spread your toes, even wearing shoes this changes the characteristic of your walk. You'll still leave footprints however.

I don't know if someone can actually make himself lighter, but there are many training methods that achieve something that appears like that.

The late Wan Laisheng of Ziranmen has a famous picture where he is walking on the edge of a basket as a child.

Su Yuzhang of Praying Mantis (Taiwan) practiced a kind of qinggong where he could run quickly up walls very high. He said that the training was very tough, had to start from childhood, and also had some bad side effects (like ruined teeth).

Sun Lutang could also run up walls very fast (many people could do this in the old days, this was an old Shaolin training method) as told by his late daughter Sun Jianyun who died recently.

Actually, some weirdos in France or something, I hear, have been running and jumping from roof to roof, doing what is probably the same as qinggong.

Could one of the bad side effects be 'Running into wall' ?

To the original poster, may I humbly recommend the School of Jenny Craig for Qingong or whatever?

We used to do an exercise in P.E. when I was a kid where all the students laid down side by side, and we took turns walking across their bellies to improve our balance. We were told to "feel lighter." It seemed like if you made an effort to believe you really were light as air, you could kind of feel it, but the keys to successfully doing the exercise were simply maintaing your balance and keeping your feet moving. And not deliberately walking heel-toe like some jacka**es did for fun.

"There are BY FAR better things for you to be practicing"!

Yeh!! Like banging your head against the wall!!!!

PS I don't belive this ability either, but I wouldn't stop anyone enquiring about it. A closed mind is a barren mind!!

    Very best wishes

Yea, I don't plan on learning it or anything; I just found it to be an interesting topic. I'm pretty sure that walking around a basket edge is part of the qinggong training and I know i've seen a video of monks doing it. This ability, if possible at all, probably requires celibacy which helps store your jing energy (sexual energy). Interesting information though, thanks guys.

Getting a girlfriend is something I recommend practicing. If not, you'll wind up like me, nearly 21 and never been on a date.

    Hmmm...

Well, since people who train this usually start at the age of 6 or so, celibacy is kind of a given...

    light body skill is real.

but only the potential can be seen nowadays.
if one were to train the exercises and integrate the principles into everyday life, there is a chance of gaining good light body skill.

if teleportation is discovered 100 years in the future, it means that it is possible now.

i practice for light body skill as part of my training.

    Default scientific qigong.

    http://twm.co.nz/DrYan_qi.htm

This is a good link, it goesthrough some of the basic metabollic changes occuring during concentration. Changing omega patterns etc... hmm.

I hovever have had the luxuary of learning many skills that have been passed from various sifu`s in henan china. the arts or consumate arts. the lighness skills lays specific emphasis on sequencial muscular contractions. the idea is that by gradualy increasing the bearinig weight of your body(weighted clothes etc) and maintaining a low metabollic rate so common with qigong. Western exersise use engery, then rest and repair. Chinese qigong, lowers the rate of energy cosumption so it creates a good base for exersice. I have witnessed the pinacles of lighness skill, or I have at least once. the disciple could run over wet sand and leave only streaks, like a snake. I was very stunned. as for levetation, I have never seen. I know it is theoretically possible(not through force fields and the like), but through simple physics. A body in a downward motion creates an increase in mass through inertia, while opposing gravity upward can lover relative body mass. So by specific sequencial muscel contrations either could be obbtained. and yes I am disleksik
