Default Kickboxing, muay thai and some good resources

Hi. I know this question has probably been asked before, but, what is the main difference between kickboxing and muay thai? Which is better for someone who si interested in martial arts and its role in maintaining and strong and well conditioned body?

Funny story. For the last year I have scoured the net and directories trying to locate a martial arts club near school (in particular, boxing, muay thai or kickboxing). The closent one (30min travel) was a wing chun place with inconvenient times, and, I did not enjoy wing chun much. Walked past the faculty of human movement and what did I see? Muay Thai and kickboxing classes... Especially for students with training facilities actually on campus!

Anyway, I have always been interested in muay thai and kickboxing ever since my TKD days and I wonder if there is anything available online for me to learn more about these arts - applications, style, techniques, training methods, good cross training, good fitness programs ...

I'm really looking forward to it. Have been wanting to start these arts since I was a kid but no schools were even close. Now one is fully equiped and on campus.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

Kickboxing is a generic term, Muay Thai is more specific.

"Kickboxing" lately can be used to mean anything from Tae Bo to Muay Thai.

But Generally it refers to a form of kickboxing that began as full contact karate competition and evolved into it's own sport. Punches and kicks only, no hitting below the belt.

Muay Thai is the national sport of Thailand, Full Mualy Thai rules allow knees, elbows and low line kicks. It also allows you to clinch and continue to fight from the clinch.

Hi, bakTObasics I have little experinced in both kickboxing white sash (EKKA, NKA), boxing and Muay thai.
Boxing will condition your whole body, kickboxing aswell as for Muay thai,

Muay Thai is the national sport from thailand, its been praticed in the ring for along time dating back to thousands of years of thai era, this involes, Kick to the leg, head body, knee to the head, body, thigh, low kicks, elbows to the head etc, alot of clinching and some sweep takedowns.

Pick one and you won't go wrong, it will keep you really fit...
